Grading of Degree Theses

  • 4 points: constitutes the benchmark assessment for dissertations. This mark is awarded to dissertations that are reasonably well-written and organised but lack originality, albeit involving a substantial amount of work (including preparatory work). Grades below 4 may be awarded for theses which, whilst representing work commensurate with the minimum effort required, exhibit significant shortcomings in terms of methodology and/or the form of the written work.
  • 5 points: In addition to the requisites required for 4 points increase, the thesis must present results (either in term of design, theory, or analysis) that are relevant, repeatable, and adequately motivated and supported by experiments and comparisons with the literature and/or existing systems.
  • 6 points: In addition to the requisites required for the 5 points increase, the thesis shows methodological or technical originality, carefully documenting the underlying data, actions, and results. Ideally, the thesis could be used as an original case study in a course within the degree program.
  • 7 points: This category includes high-quality theses that, in addition to meeting the requirements for the 6 points, are rigorously written and contain significant original contributions.
